Vacation days ~ deserved and undeserved

To: The Loutish Loafer

I don’t think I told you that I’m taking today, tomorrow, and Thursday off from work. I would normally take the whole week off, but this year it feels important that both my co-facilitator and I be present for the group we run on Wednesday mornings, so Wednesday will be a workday. Right now that still feels like a good decision, but I’m kind of anticipating that I won’t be quite so on board with the program come Wednesday when I actually have to get up and stay up at 5:15.

So just cuz, I checked your official daily schedule and found this lovely bit of propaganda gracing the first slot for today’s date:

“During the Holiday season, President Trump will continue to work tirelessly for the American People. His schedule includes many meetings and calls.”

It’s also in the first slot for yesterday’s entry and every day since the 24th when the following variation appeared:

“[No items on the calendar. This is what was listed, verbatim] As the Holiday season approaches, President Trump will continue to work tirelessly for the American People. His schedule includes many meetings and calls.”

Since the 19th you’ve had nada on the books as conveyed by: “The President has no public events scheduled.” The week or so before the 19th you had zero or one thing listed on your calendar. Plus, today, yesterday, Friday, and Thursday the only real thing on your schedule is golfing. So, it appears you’ve effectively been on vacation too despite the bullshit bit about you working “tirelessly for the American people.” I suppose if you squint really, really hard you could honestly say you’re working tirelessly for some American people – yourself, Ivanka, Mitch, and the Mercers – it’s a stretch, though, to say you’re working for “the American People” – it just is.

I saw in the WP that whoever is running your hotel there in DC wised up and released the room hold on the dates around the Inauguration, which is being read as something of an acknowledgment that you lost the election and are not, in fact, going to be the featured star of Inauguration Day 2021. There do still appear to be room holds in place for next week when Congress is scheduled to affirm the Electoral College votes. Seems like you all are cutting it kind of close – January 6th is right around the corner and if those rooms haven’t been booked yet by your adoring fans, are you really sure they’re coming for the Wild Women for Trump rally scheduled that day? Hmm. It doesn’t seem like you to be willing to leave money on the table – for anything.

I’ll close by sharing that in honor of a sunny-in-Seattle vacation day, we took the dogs to Richmond Beach up in Shoreline this afternoon. It’s an honest to goodness real beach that’s only about a half hour away and it’s beautiful, if crowded. We’d never been there before so we weren’t sure what to expect, but we’ll be going back soon, albeit on a rainy day. The super cool things (to me) are the incredibly clear and clean the water and the big, wide view from atop the dunes. It made today a real vacation day, which feels like a precious gift in the midst of this craziness.

May we be safe to enjoy some down time (if our initials are not DJT).
May we be happy to be out in the sun.
May we be intentional about shoring up our strengths and our health.
May we accept the positive glimmers when they appear.

Sincerely,
Tracy Simpson
