Freed up to see some real treasure

Dear President Trump,

I just don’t have it today to give you any fierce compassion so I’m going to tell you about a quirky little thing I noticed on the way to work this morning. There is a stretch of freeway right after I get on near my house that doesn’t seem raised but really is. All the raised portions of freeway here (and probably everywhere) have small drains at regular intervals marked with narrow white vertical painted stripes from the top of the concrete barrier down to the drain. We were going so slowly this morning I was able to see there are black numbers painted on the white stripes. I only noticed them starting with 7 but it stands to reason that 1 through 6 are there too. I’ll probably have a chance again tomorrow morning to check since the morning commute absolutely crawls pretty much every day. Today though, as I slowly drifted by the white stripes I came to 10, 11, 12, all of which were very neatly painted with the numbers perfectly horizontal and each of the 1’s with their little Times New Roman left-facing beaks and sturdy pedestals. Then came 13 and it still had the little beak but no pedestal and it was painted at a sort of cock-eyed angle. It looked like things might be coming apart and this was confirmed with 14, which had neither a beak nor a pedestal. Same for 15, 16, 17, and 18, all of which were progressively poorly executed. And then the numbers just stopped even though there are several more drains with white stripes in the series. Rather curious. I wonder what happened with whoever painted those numbers. They pretty clearly started out enthusiastically with their beautiful, carefully rendered numbers that would make their mother proud, but by number 13 the quality had seriously deteriorated. I could see it if the person had been painting numbers for a half-mile section with a hundred or more drains but they only got through 12 well-done ones and then just stopped after 18. It’s a little tiny, not very important mystery.

Have you noticed anything odd or quirky or amusing or whatever on your trip abroad? My bet is you haven’t since you don’t seem to have this sort of noticing temperament for things other than profit and deal making. Maybe when you get bored with those pursuits, you’ll be freed up to see some real treasure. Maybe.

In the meantime here is your blessing:

May you be safe.
May you be happy.
May you be healthy.
May your life unfold and intersect peacefully.
