“Extra judicial killing” is murder

Dear President Trump,

I was wondering when I would get so fed up I would not be able to stick with a positive focus when writing to you and that day has come. You have said and done a lot of awful things the past 10 days or so since I switched gears, ranging from insane levels of nepotism (Secretaries Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner; really?) to inhumane proposed budget cuts to a tax “plan” that is so obviously self-serving as to seem like a sick joke. But all of that was in keeping with your usual levels of greed and meanness so I held steady with the positivity. Not today. Today I am absolutely horrified that you invited Duterte to visit the US and praised his hard line on drug users and sellers. This hard line, which you and he (and for some sick reason, the press) insist on calling “extra judicial killings” is really murder, plain and simple. People there are being murdered because they have the misfortune of being addicted to drugs. Thousands of them. Dead. How can you not be condemning these flagrant human rights violations?

If you really came up with the idea of inviting Duterte here and calling to congratulate Erdogan on cementing his dictatorial position then you are even more deranged than I thought possible. If, on the other hand, you are being fed these ideas, who is feeding you and who is feeding the feeders? Is someone in Russia quietly telling people in your administration to suggest you make this or that call to the most despicable strong men they can come up with in an effort to further undermine our standing in the world? Are you not talking with anyone with any sense before you make these calls? These men are having their people murdered and disappeared. Every day. Even if you secretly (or not so secretly) wished you could do that here to shut up people who annoy you, you shouldn’t make it so clear you admire this sort of behavior.

Or maybe you should. Maybe some of the people who voted for you are addicted to opiate pain killers or have moved on to heroin or know someone who has and they will realize you value their lives about as much as your buddy Duterte values his drug addicted citizens’ lives. Maybe they will wake up and start seeing what you are really about.

May the people wake up.

May you wake up.
May you be safe.
May you be happy.
May you be healthy.
May your life unfold and intersect peacefully.
