Dear President Trump,
I sure wish you would surprise me and do or say something I could get behind. I’m so tired of feeling dismayed and disgusted by you and your administration. At this point, though, even if you did come through with something positive, like allow US officials to attend the summit on human rights there in Washington DC or back off the short-sighted, mean spirited budget cuts to domestic programs, I couldn’t feel very good about it given the cloud of suspicion looming over you, your campaign, and Russia.
I’m finding I haven’t felt very good about much of anything since the investigation into whether your campaign colluded with Russia was announced by Director Comey on Monday. It didn’t help at all to read about your ties with the elusive Robert Mercer who’s been funding Bannon and contributed substantially to your campaign. Politics are so messed up by big money and greed that anything remotely resembling fair elections seems out of reach for us. I really don’t get how in a country that is supposed to have representational government where each adult person is supposed to have a single vote, we instead have a system where those with money get to have wildly out-sized influence on elections and those who live in less populated states get to have their vote count more than those in more populated states via the electoral college. Then there’s gerrymandering….. The multitude of ways to further stack the deck against the already disenfranchised is staggering even without adding foreign agents into the mix. I know the founding fathers didn’t do a very good job of protecting the rights of non-whites and women in their time, but I bet they would be horrified by what is going on now.
In order to keep myself on something of an even keel, I am going to go ahead and keep sending you loving-kindness blessings. At least for now.
May you be safe.
May you be happy.
May you be healthy.
May your life unfold and intersect peacefully.
