Praying you somehow find it in you to be noble and brave

Dear President Trump,

I’ve been thinking a lot about the people who voted for you and are still holding strong in their belief in and approval of you. What are you going to tell them, and when? Are you going to claim innocence to the bitter end? I’m worried about them, to some extent for their sake and some for mine, but mostly for the country’s sake. If even half of what we are hearing from citizen journalists like Claude Taylor and Louise Mensch is true, you and yours are going down hard and soon. No amount of distraction and no number of ill-advised firings are going to save you from being unmasked and removed from office. It is just a matter of time.

So what are you going to tell them? Are you going to step up and tell the truth, let them know the election really was rigged, that you gained the White House through an election process you corrupted with help from Russia and dark US monies? Are you going to come clean and tell them how you used them by whipping them up into frenzies about walls and the ACA? Are you going to tell the truth about how you and your fake news manufacturers fed them inflammatory lies about Clinton? I would so love to be truly surprised by you for once. It would be a momentous day to hear you acknowledge how you screwed them over and had no intention of protecting their interests if those interests couldn’t make you money. It would be incredible to hear you tell them the game is over, that you’ve lost, that the road you led them down is caving in on itself because it was paved with lies and had no underpinnings other than self-serving greed.

Even if you are a hollowed out ghoul who is going down in history as our most destructive and embarrassing president, you still wield incredible power to shape the future of this country and the world by how you handle these next chapters. I have absolutely no confidence you can even imagine a path forward that could replace the lies and greed with dignity, integrity, selflessness, and compassion for everyone you’ve harmed, but as the allies of the free world concentrate on bringing your crimes to light, I am going to pray you somehow find it in you to be noble and brave. We will eventually recover either way, but those who believed in you deserve to hear the truth from you.

To help push you in this direction, here is your blessing:

May you be safe.
May you be happy.
May you be healthy.
May you step up with honesty and integrity.
